When it comes to prophecy and the gifts of the Spirit, the Biblical path is to be open without being naive and critical without being judgmental. Dr. Eddie Hyatt explains how that looks in this episode.

"Prophecy is for giving personal advice and direction in life" is the misconception addressed in this episode. Eddie shows the incredible change that took place through the coming of Messiah Jesus and the outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost, resulting in not a single example of anyone in the NT seeking out a prophet for advice or direction.

"The Gift of Prophecy is a Sign of Spiritual Advancement" is the misconception Eddie addresses in this episode. He shows from the Greek text and an amazing personal testimony that these gifts, including prophecy, are given out of God's goodness and grace and say nothing of the persons maturity or holiness.

"Those who have this gift can prophesy at will" is the second misconception that Eddie addresses. He shows that these "gifts" reside in the Holy Spirit, not the person, and it is the Holy Spirit who decides when and where these gifts, including prophecy, will be manifest.

"A gift for predicting the future" is the first misconception that Eddie deals with in this series. He shows the purpose of prophecy from Scripture and demonstrates that it is not a sanctified/Christian form of fortunetelling or psychic reading.
